Whether or not the association you race with makes this a mandatory item it is just common sense to install one of these on your car.

We have seen many chassis that were not repairable due to the engine breaking at the finish line and putting oil under the rear tires. It seams like a small price to pay when you consider the cost of a chassis repair.
