(01-27-2014) CLINTON, NC  – GALOT MOTORSPORTS’ driver and Crew Chief, Todd “King Tut” Tutterow scored a second place finish and was the number one qualifier in the Outlaw Pro Mod class at the U.S. Street Nationals race held at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Bradenton, Florida on January 24-26, 2014.

DZIMG_91741Behind the wheel of his supercharged 1968 Chevrolet Camaro, Tutterow put down a stellar pass in the first round of Outlaw Pro Mod qualifying going 3.902 at 191.28 MPH to secure the number one position. In round two, Tutterow briefly slipped into the number three spot but easily regained his rightful place at the top of the pack in the third and final qualifier with a 3.883 at 192.88 MPH run.

In the first round of eliminations Tutterow had a 3.852 at 194.30 MPH trip down the strip, his quickest and fastest pass of the weekend, and moved into round two where his 3.902 at 192.10 MPH run earned him the right to run in the next round. Moving into the semi-finals, Tutterow cut a great light and flew down the track to reach the big end ahead of his opponent with a 3.874 at 192.55 MPH run. The final round was incredibly close all the way to the finish line, but ultimately Tutterow came in just .008-seconds behind his opponent to take home the second place title.

With a fantastic runner-up class finish and number one qualifier honors, the GALOT Motorsports team had a great start to their 2014 season.

The GALOT team has a busy schedule planned for 2014 including the full 10-race NHRA Pro Mod series, and also plans on attending local races, such as the Big Dog Shootout at Piedmont Dragway in Julian, NC, and various Extreme Outlaw Pro Mod (EOPM) races, as scheduling permits.

Matusek to drive TMRC Camaro for Danny Rowe Racing

(12-13-2013) LENEXA, KS – You heard it correctly! Aeromotive’s Steve Matusek is trading in a set of turbos for a supercharger. Danny Rowe, driver of the Agave Underground Tequila Supercharged ’68 Pro Mod Camaro and Danny Rowe Racing (DRR) have teamed up with Steve Matusek and Aeromotive for the 2014 season. Matusek will drive the second car for DRR, also a supercharged ’68 Camaro. “The opportunity came up towards the end of the season and a after a little deliberation, I just couldn’t pass it up,” said Matusek.

TMRC CamaroThis comes on the heels of the recent announcement from NHRA in regards to the Pro Mod series and the 2014 season. Both Danny Rowe and Steve Matusek are founding members of the Real Pro Mod Association (RPM), the group attributed with keeping the NHRA Pro Mod Series strong and viable as well as bringing in new sponsors and the upcoming TV series to be featured on Velocity. “RPM and our involvement in the series only strengthened the relationship between Danny and I, and made this move make even more sense,” Matusek continued. “Danny has had tremendous success and his crew chief, Jimmy Rector is top notch. I am extremely excited to be a part of the team!”

In addition to the tremendous reputation of DRR and their team, a move like this makes even more sense for Aeromotive’s racing program. Last year, Aeromotive released a new fuel pump for the blown alcohol and nostalgia funny car market. Proven on Matusek’s alcohol injected turbo pro mod, this pump is the perfect option for the Pro Mod and alcohol classes. Expect to see these new pumps in full force throughout the 2014 season.

The 2014 NHRA Pro Mod season is a 10 race series that kicks off in Gainesville, FL in March. Expect to see both Steve and Danny flying the Agave Tequila flag in a pair of beautiful blown Pro Mods.

(11-18-13) CLINTON, NC – GALOT MOTORSPORTS driver Todd Tutterow raced to a second place podium finish at the final 2013 Big Dog Shootout event held at Piedmont Dragway in Julian, NC on November 9, 2013.

2013-Big-Dog-CamaroDriving his supercharged classic Chevrolet Camaro, Tutterow ran well during qualifying, putting down a best ET of 4.12 to rank him sixth overall.

Tutterow defeated his challenger in the first round of eliminations, going even quicker with a clean and true 4.05 ET pass to trigger the win lights in his lane. Moving into the semi-finals, GALOT’s Tutterow found himself alone at the tree with a bye run as his opponent was not able to make it to the start. Opting to take it easy on the car, Tutterow launched effortlessly and backed off the throttle partway down the track to cruise easily into the next and last round for the night.

As Tutterow staged his Camaro at the tree for the finals, the crowd was on its feet and buzzing with excitement to see who would come out on top of this epic battle. Besting himself yet again in the finals, Tutterow hooked perfectly and ran his quickest ET of the night: a flawless and fast 3.92 put Tutterow straight down the track in the center of the groove, but ultimately it was not enough to hold off Chris Rini’s 3.86 ET pass.

The GALOT Motorsports team is thrilled with Todd Tutterow’s runner-up finish, and is looking forward to running at more Big Dog Shootout races in the 2014 season!

PMRA Countdown to the 2013 Championship – Rocky Di Lecce – Champion

(11-18-13) CAYUGA, ON – It just couldn’t get much better for Rocky Di Lecce in 2013.

The Pro Modified racer from Mississauga, Ontario won a record-setting five events for one season in the Pro Modified Racing Association, winning the Championship Point Award Series in fine style.

Di Lecce also captured a special Pro Mod Invitational held at Maryland International Raceway in September in an inaugural Canada-versus-USA matchup, besting some of the finest Pro Mod teams in the Eastern US.

Rocky3This year went well, I am happy with it, said Di Lecce, who has now completed his second full year of PMRA competition. But I have still a ways to go, he continued. I was still on a learning cycle this year.

For a new racer in the Pro Modified ranks, Di Lecce, a former OSCA champion, has been a quick study with solid qualifying attempts at all PMRA events in 2013, and a consistency that brought he and the rest of the Metro Infrastructure Inc. team success.

And he said this success would not have happened without the help of his team. These guys worked so well throughout the year, he explained. They were so thorough, provided a solid car, and helped so much.

Di Lecce qualified fourth for the season opener at Martin, Michigan, and took the final round over fellow PMRA racer Jay Santos of Halton Hills, Ontario. For the next three events, all held on the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park, Di Lecce qualified number one on the ladder, and also powered his Camaro to victory at each race, eliminating Jeff Roth of New Dundee, Ontario, Bruce Boland of Stoney Creek, Ontario, and Derek Hawker of Corbyville, Ontario in the final rounds.

For the fifth race, the first of two held at the Grand Bend Motorplex, Di Lecce started number two on the ladder, but went rounds, meeting up and beating Boland once again in the final. For the season closer, he qualified number one but was eliminated in the first round.

In two non-points PMRA races held in 2013, Di Lecce qualified number one during the IHRA MOPAR Nitro Jam Nationals at Grand Bend, racing until the semi-final, and then went laps with some of the best from the Eastern US in September to win the first International Pro Mod Challenge held at Maryland International Raceway.

When asked about his plans for 2014, Di Lecce said the focus will be on reducing weight in the car.

We were good for power, he noted. But we are going to lighten up the car. We are always looking to improve.

With Angelo Aceto as crew chief, the others in the winning team include Emilio Aceto, Kevin Cooper, Tony Presto, Michael Aceto, Robbie Cesario and Nadia Di Lecce. The team is sponsored by Metro Infrastructure Inc. and Midway Automotive. The Camaro recorded trips down the quarter-mile in the 5.9-second range at over 242 mph this year.

The Camaro is powered by a 526-cubic inch Brad Anderson (BAE) supercharged hemi coupled to a Lenco Drive in the Tim McAmis Race Cars chassis. The car features a Waterman Racing Components fuel system and Kobelco supercharger.

I want to thank my sponsors and especially my crew, he said. A special thank you to Al Billes for his reliable horse power, and I want to thank Hutch’s Transmissions and Neil Chance Convertors.

Rowe & Rector Receive Steve Engel Award Following Final Round Appearance in Las Vegas

(10-31-2013) LAS VEGAS, Nevada – It seemed like a race weekend one step shy of perfect for the Agave Underground Pro Mod team as Danny Rowe came up short in the final round against fellow Pro Mod frontrunner Troy Coughlin, but that all changed later Sunday night during the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series Awards Banquet when Rowe and longtime crew chief Jimmy Rector were awarded the Steve Engel “Big Man, Big Heart” Award.

DSC_4830-RoweIn front of a room filled with their racing peers, Rowe and Rector were presented the award that is handed out annually to a member of the Pro Mod community that best exemplify Engel’s gregarious spirit and generous nature. The award was created in Engel’s memory, following his untimely death in 2008 as a result of a high-speed accident during qualifying for the U.S. Nationals. Rowe and Rector join John Waldie, Mike Knowles, Troy Coughlin and Roger Burgess as recipients of the perpetual honor.

Rowe, a Pro Mod racer for nearly 15 years, and Rector, a multi-time champion Alcohol Funny Car racer himself who has served as Rowe’s crew chief since 2006, are amongst the most beloved characters in the pits at any stop on the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series tour. Though fiercely competitive, their friendly and family-oriented nature is well known in racing circles.

“Jimmy and I are so honored to receive this award,” said Rowe. “But, honestly, speaking for myself, I’m humbled more than anything else. My attitude is that I’m so fortunate to get the award, but it’s this whole group that deserves it – all the people like Steve Engel who have worked tirelessly to build and grow the Pro Mod series; people like John Waldie, Mike Knowles, Troy Coughlin, Steve Matusek, Mike Janis Jr., Mike Castellana, Harry Hruska and Ryan Haas.”

For Rowe, who has raced exclusively with Jimmy Rector since returning to the sport in 2006, it was especially gratifying to see his friend and tuner recognized.

“I think it’s huge; I think it says a lot about what people think of Jimmy and our team,” said Rowe. “He has stood behind me and lets me do my thing, and he’s kind of the silent hero. He’s always there for me so that I can do what I need to do, and I couldn’t be happier that he was a part of this moment.

“For Jimmy and I to get this award in honor of Steve means more than we can say,” continued Rowe. “Steve loved this sport just as much as we do. He had a big heart and even bigger smile, and we’re proud to carry on his legacy and continue building Pro Mod in his honor.”

Powering to the final round of competition at the season-ending NHRA Toyota Nationals, finishing sixth in the championship points and being awarded the Steve Engel Award will make for an enjoyable offseason for Rowe and company, but the veteran driver is already excited about 2014.

“This weekend in Las Vegas was a great way to put a bow on 2013,” Rowe concluded. “Having so much of our family and friends on hand, along with everyone from our sponsor Agave Underground Tequila, just made it that much more special. We’re already working on our plans for 2014 and we’re looking forward to making a run at the championship.”

Rowe Looking to Finish in Style at NHRA Las Vegas Finale

(10-25-13) LAS VEGAS, NV – Despite the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series championship being out of reach, Danny Rowe and the Agave Underground Tequila team look to send off the 2013 race season with a bold performance on The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway at this weekend’s 13th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals.

roweheadshot“Considering all the dramatics we’ve been a part of over the years, it’s different to be here in Vegas for the last race of the season and not be mixed up in a points battle,” says Rowe, who for the last several seasons remained in contention for the series championship right up until the final curtain fell at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. “But that doesn’t really change anything for us; our goal for this weekend is the same as it always is, and that’s to win.

“We have a lot of family and friends in town for the race, as well as all the gang from Agave Underground Tequila, and there would be no better way for us to put a bow on things than to put this hot rod in the winner’s circle on Sunday,” continued Rowe. “Jimmy [Rector, crew chief] and all of our crew have worked their tails off to give us a race car that is capable of winning every time out. We’ve had a fast car all year, but we just haven’t had the race day luck you sometimes need to go rounds out here – especially when you have the level of competition that we have in Pro Mod right now. Nonetheless, I’m hoping we can put it all together this weekend and go out with a bang.”

Rowe, who debuted a new marketing partnership with exclusive tequila company Agave Underground back in March, feels the ever-increasing competition within Pro Mod and interest in the class bodes well for the future of the class.

“We’re thrilled to have been able to introduce Agave Underground to Pro Mod drag racing,” says Rowe, “and we’re excited to continue to grow their involvement in the sport and continue showing them the power of this industry and fan base. Right now, it feels like there’s more interest in the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series than we’ve ever had and it’s exciting. We’ve got a ton of great teams here in Las Vegas for this weekend’s race and I think we really have something to build on.”

Velocity/TMPP Named Exclusive Producer of Moran 2013 Mustang Body

(10-18-2013) HAWK POINT, MO – Responsible for all of today’s most popular Pro Modified bodies, which are distributed through Tim McAmis Performance Parts, along with numerous other components including wheel tubs, hood scoops, wings and custom carbon fiber products, Velocity Composites is the undisputed leader when it comes to high-quality composites for the hardcore drag racing industry.

MREMustangRelease-WebIn a recent agreement, Velocity Composites has been named the exclusive manufacturer of the Mike Moran designed, 2013 MRE Mustang body while Tim McAmis Performance Parts will become the official supplier. Customers wishing to use the MRE Mustang body will now receive a product of superior construction, along with a much needed reduction in production time.

Velocity Composites was first to introduce the advanced technology and processes that are still sought after in the industry today. Not only are Velocity products lighter and stronger but the cosmetics are incredible and last for years. This gives racers an advantage on track while saving time and money from having to replace complete bodies and components every other season.

Originally based off of Ford’s Pro Stock design, the 2013 MRE Mustang has been modified by Moran specifically for Pro Mod competition. Improvements made to support this transformation include significantly reducing the frontal area and lowering the roofline while also laying the windshield back. Both sets of wheel wells were made smaller for better aerodynamics and the rear of the body has been reworked for better air diffusion.

Production is already underway and customers may obtain the 2013 MRE Mustang Pro Modified body through Tim McAmis Performance Parts, currently the exclusive distributor for Velocity Composites.

Danny Rowe Ready for Anything in St. Louis

(9-27-2013) ST. LOUIS, MO – The quarter-mile strip just off the Mississippi River at St. Louis’ Gateway Motorsports Park has never failed to provide Danny Rowe with memorable moments, and the veteran Pro Mod driver is hoping for one more this weekend at the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals.

rowe2013“We’ve seen it all at Gateway,” said Rowe. “We’ve had big thrills, a big spill and everything in between, but we’re excited to be back in St. Louis. Last year we made it all the way to the finals and came up a little short. This time around, I’m hoping we can be on the right side of things in the money round and put this Agave Underground hot rod in the winner’s circle.

“We’ve had a great car all year, so I don’t see any reason that won’t be the case,” continued Rowe. “Jimmy [Rector, crew chief], Karen, Junior, Daryl, Chop – this whole team – they’ve worked hard and I’m looking forward to putting a notch in the win column for them this weekend.”

Rowe, who qualified No. 1 just two weeks ago in Charlotte, would like nothing more than to maintain that level of performance at Gateway.

“Jimmy has had this thing tuned up lately and I’d say with the weather forecast and the way we ran at zMAX, he’ll be shooting for that number-one spot right off the bat,” said Rowe. “As always, though, we’ll focus on getting in the show and then come Saturday afternoon we’ll get our game faces on. We want to close out this season on a high note.”

Qualifying gets underway for the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series Friday, September 27th at 2:15 PM with a second session slated for 4:15 PM. The third and final round of qualifying is set for 1:45 PM with the opening round of eliminations scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM. Final eliminations will continue Sunday at approximately 12:30 PM.
