Goodguys Racing Preview

(4-13-11) PLEASANTON, CA – The Goodguys Racing Pro Mod ’69 Camaro driven by Marc Meadors has a new look and a whole new attitude heading into the 2011 season. Following a major setback last fall in Sacramento when a freak accident in the staging lanes destroyed the car and injured Marc’s young son, the team has regrouped, reloaded and repainted the car. Better yet, 8 year old Grant Meadors is doing well, while still recovering from his injuries and is ready to watch his dad kick asphalt this year.

Goodguys RacingThose familiar with Northern California drag racing history will instantly recognize the Camaro’s new paint scheme. In honor of long time family friend and Drag Racing Hall of Fame inductee Rich Guasco, the Goodguys Racing Camaro sports the famed “Pure Hell” flames and candy burgundy hues that made the Fuel Altered a worldwide sensation. The scheme matches the famous bantam roadster right down the “Pure Hell” lettering and Guasco couldn’t be happier or more proud to see his colors heading into the Pro Mod Wars.

The engine combination has changed dramatically to match the car’s new look. A screw-type supercharger has been bolted to the potent 451 cubic inch Brand Anderson hemi. A Bruno drive and Bradco torque converter insures the new drive train can handle all that power. The goal is to run consistent 5-sercond passes at speeds over 240mph.

“We want to run for the championship in any Pro Mod series we can this year,” Meadors said. “We’ve got the crew, the experience and now we’ve got all the best parts so we’re confident we can run right there with the best this season.”

A big shout out to all the folks that have helped the Goodguys Racing Team rebound…

Meadors Debuts Pure Hell Camaro

(4-11-11) PLEASANTON, CA – After a very successful 1st weekend testing, we would like to thank each and every one of you for the comments, “likes”, texts and phone calls. We couldnt have had a better 1st time back out. It was a long 6 months, but well worth the wait. We ran into some “new car blues” and lost some testing today, but it allowed us to get the car maintenance and buttoned up for this coming weekend. Were all pretty excited at the possibilities with the hot rod, and were off to a good start. Not too shabby for receiving the car Thursday of this week!

Incrementals on the 2nd pass on the car:

Rowe Vegas Preview

(4-1-11) LAS VEGAS, NV – Fresh off a final round appearance at the season-opener in Gainesville, Florida a few weeks ago, Danny Rowe heads into the second stop on the Get Screened America NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series tour with a full head of steam.

Danny Rowe“We really had a tremendous weekend at the Gatornationals,” says Rowe, checking in via cell phone en route to the fabulous Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. “We knew we were in for a drag race against Balooshi in the final, and I was fired up, but we didn’t quite have enough to hang on for the win. We’re happy to hang around late on Sunday and be in the final though – earning those oh-so-valuable championship points – and we’re feeling good about Vegas, as well as the 2011 season as a whole.”

There’s little reason not to feel good for Danny Rowe and company as they burst onto the scene the season with their race program firing on all eight cylinders. Not only was Rowe a machine on the starting line, but crew chief Jimmy Rector had a tune-up in the Sterling Bridge ’68 Camaro that had everyone’s attention.

“I can’t say enough about this team,” continues Rowe. “I’m glad that we’re getting off to a good start, but our approach to these races rarely changes. We’ve got some stiff competition out here, so you can’t take anything for granted; every qualified team is capable of winning. We have to keep this pace and not settle for anything less than late-round appearances on Sundays.”

Though Pro Modified is known for its anything-can-happen nature, Rowe’s Sterling Bridge-backed supercharged Camaro looks like a sure-bet after the last event in Florida.

“After the rule change that was handed down over the offseason, Jimmy [Rector] worked around the clock to make sure we’d not be behind the eight-ball performance wise this year,” says Rowe. “We certainly had favorable conditions in Gainesville, but that applies to everyone – and this Sterling Bridge team was right in the thick of things. We’ve got a lot of racing left to do, but we can’t help but feel confident about our performance at this point.”

Another big outing at the series’ first of two visits to Las Vegas Motor Speedway would have Rowe better positioned early in the season than ever before, and that bodes well for what is sure to be a tightly contested championship battle.

Rowe Takes Runner-Up in Gainesville

Danny Rowe TMRC Camaro(3-14-11) GAINESVILLE, FL – Just like he had planned, Danny Rowe came out swinging in 2011, scoring a runner-up finish in the Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series season-opener at the 42nd Annual Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida.

Utilizing a combination of high-level performance and consistency, Rowe built on his second-place qualifying effort (5.855/250.27mph) by toppling some of the best Pro Modified has to offer in Scott Ray, Ed Hoover, and racing legend Rickie Smith, before facing Khalid Al-Balooshi in the final round on the historic Gainesville Raceway quarter-mile. Rowe left first with a .056-second reaction time and held the lead until almost half-track when Balooshi squeaked by to take the win and bring to an end a phenomenal weekend of Pro Mod Drag Racing.

“Wow, what a weekend,” says Rowe, climbing out of his car after the series’ first final round of 2011. “I’d be remiss if I didn’t admit that we’re a little disappointed, but I can’t deny that simply being in the final round here today – it’s a big deal for this team. We wanted to come out and make a statement early, and I think that’s exactly what we did.

“We talk about it a lot, but the competition out here is incredible,” Rowe continues. “You look at the number of low 5.90 and 5.80 runs in eliminations and it’s undeniable that Pro Mod Racing is as serious as ever. As always, we went into race day focused on consistency. We had to make good, fast runs to go rounds, and Jimmy [Rector, crew chief] provided me a hot rod that did just that.”

Rowe’s run to the final included a string of impressive runs, including a 5.913 and a 5.894 – both at nearly 250mph.

“I can’t say enough about this Sterling Bridge team,” says Rowe. “We worked hard this offseason and I believe it’s going to pay dividends all year long. This was a great way to welcome RCD Engineering to our amazing family of sponsors, and I’m looking forward to the next stop on the GSA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series tour already.”

Laurita Gets Updates

(2-21-11) HAWK POINT, MO – One of the top newcomers in the ADRL in 2010 was Pro Nitrous driver Jim Laurita. In one of the deeper classes in the league, Laurita performed well, capping off his first year in the ADRL with a win at the Summit Racing Equipment Ohio Drags in Norwalk.

Laurita was bitten by the ADRL bug and the ‘70.5 Camaro was delivered to Tim McAmis Race Cars over the winter to get some of the latest updates for the 2011 season. Look for Laurita and the TMRC Camaro to be a top contender in the Pro Nitrous division in 2011.
